What is Melamine? Melamine is a high melting point organic that is used to make thermosetting molding compounds. When cured under high pressure and temperature, melamine moldings exhibit resistance to heat, water and chemicals. Halsey, inc. has molded melamine (MelaMac®) dinnerware for over 50 years. How is the Custom Picture Plate made? First melamine artwork is produced from your photo by the proprietary Halsey process. The artwork is co-molded into a 10" dinner plate. The resulting Picture Plate image is contained beneath a hard, durable, food grade melamine surface. How durable are the Custom Picture Plates? Custom Picture Plates are made of Melamine, which are scratch resistant, fast drying, stain resistant, stackable and long lasting. How do I care for my Custom Picture Plate? Plates are dishwasher safe. Use of serrated knives or knives with damaged edges is not recommended. Dark colors will show wear first. Will my picture be returned? Your photo will be returned in the original condition with your plate. Please make sure you put your name on the back of the photo, being careful not to press to hard as you may damage your photo. Do photos or digital images produce better pictures on the plates? The quality of the image on the final product is determined by the quality of the original photo and the amount of enlargement required for the plate. Also, a higher resolution digital photo will produce a better quality plate than a low resolution photo. What quality do digital pictures need to be? You need a High Resolution Picture from a digital camera. A 2 mega pixel camera or higher works best. Where should the subject be located in the picture? The picture should be taken at a normal viewing distance of a few feet with background on all sides of the subject. Can you use groups of people in the picture? Groups of people may be used however it is best if they are close together in the center of the picture. The best way to check this is to draw an imaginary circle around the group and if all of the faces are in the center of the circle the picture will turn out great. If someone is on the edge of the circle his face will be on the edge of the plate. Can I use professional photos?
